Click to Enlarge Hello to all our clients and readers,

Late last month the team headed to the Chelsea Flower Show where we lucked upon a beautiful, sunny afternoon and joined the crowds for some inspiration. The weather has since delivered us more than our share of rain which has seen the Hose Pipe Ban in London lifted, for the time being. The wet weather means the soil is now moist and perfect for planting and the warmer days will help encourage plants to send out new roots and start growing quickly. If you need any help deciding what to plant and where our experts are on hand with all the advice you need.

PROJECTS

Concept Design - SW19

The Concept behind this design is to create a garden which is smart and elegant, yet functional for the children, which reflects the kitchen proportion and scale so that it flows out from the interior. The ‘structure’ of the garden is created by a simple lay out of sharp lines framed by clipped plant material, namely hornbeam and buxus. The creation of an area for seating which is more informal and irregular, to catch the evening sun, is another important aspect of the design.
Lighting of the trees and boundaries will afford a different perspective of the garden maximising the night time view of the space. This design aims to create of a haven within the city that will both maximise the garden and improve the lifestyle aspect of the property.

Jobs for June

•Dead head early flowering shrubs, such as Camellia and Rhododendrons;
•With this alternating wet and warm weather keep a close eye out for fungus and disease, powdery mildew in particular, and treat as necessary;
•Feed and weed lawns;
•Fertilise all summer flowering shrubs with liquid feeds to encourage healthy grow and strong flowering.

As always we are here to help with all your landscaping and gardening needs.

Click to Enlarge Hello to all our clients and readers,

After one of the driest winters on record we have now had the wettest April ever recorded and all just as the hose pipe ban has come into force. It’s not time to celebrate yet however, as the MET office says we will need many more months of above average rainfall to ease pressure on our water supplies. The extra moisture will be a welcome relief to our gardens and will hopefully give all your plants a boost coming into the growing season.

Current Projects:

Concept Design: TW8

The core principles of the design are to employ repetition to push and pull the eye between the terrace elements and the expansive views beyond. The design also utilises a constrained planting palette to maintain the order generated by the repetition of the planters. The design aims to use the space to its full potential by creating two separate ‘rooms’, one for dining and one for relaxing, that are united by the underlying design principles.

Jobs for May:

Pruning early flowering shrubs as they finish to maintain shape and encourage new growth. In some cases you will even get a second flush of flowers later in the season, also feed with a slow release fertiliser to ensure they have plenty of nutrients for the growing season.

Keep an eye on lawns for signs of fungus and disease especially if we get a few warm days in amongst the rain. Regular aeration will help drainage and keep many problems at bay.

Start planting summer bedding.

And finally the RHS Chelsea Flower is upon us once again, get in early to secure your tickets, this year the show runs from 22-26th May.

As always we are here to help with all your landscaping and gardening requirements no matter how big or small.

Click to Enlarge Hello to all our clients and readers,

Spring is definitely in the air and the first bulbs and early flowering shrubs are filling our gardens with colour.

After one of the driest winters on record now is the time to check your irrigation system and carry out any maintenance to ensure it is fully operational for the year ahead. If you have been thinking of installing a new irrigation system then we are here to help. We would recommend a low maintenance drip-irrigation system, which will efficiently and effectively ensure water is delivered straight to where it is needed most, the root zone. We can even install it on an automated timer so all you need to do is sit back and watch your garden grow.

Other jobs for March:
• Lawn maintenance: removing moss and weeds
• Plant and divide herbaceous perennials
• Fertilise and mulch
• Rejuvenate tired climbers with a hard prune

Click to Enlarge Hello to all our clients and followers,

Well the days are finally starting to stretch and just when you thought it was safe to start thinking about spring, winter has reared its ugly head. The boys are certainly thankful for their new water and wind proof winter coats.

Have you noticed the slightly confused Flowering Cherry’s who thought spring had come early? Let’s hope they save a few flowers for when spring really does arrive. Keep an eye out for them on your travels, they might just brighten your day.

Jobs for February:
• Last minute pruning of your roses and wisteria before they start to shoot again.
• Installing trellis and fencing so your climbers can take hold in spring.
• Clear the last of the leaves from your lawn and garden beds to ensure you keep pests and diseases at bay.

If you need a hand, we are here help.

Click to Enlarge Hello to all our clients and readers,
After our cold snap last week, the temperature has climbed to a balmy 12C which with the addition of some well needed rain can only be good for the garden. This month, whilst we continue to do our wisteria and fruit tree pruning, it is also a very good time to re-condition the soil by turning in well-rotted manure.

PROJECTS
Location - Victoria SW1
Status: This project is now completed to the clients satisfaction.
Location - Notting Hill
Status: On-going hard/soft landscaping. The project includes the underpinning of party walls, turfing the lawn, installing drainage and the construction of a bespoke hardwood garden storage unit.
Location - Gloucestershire
Status: We continue with the large cloud planting of buxus and taxus to plots all around the main house in addition to creating a new step project (pictured above)

Just in case you all thought that we had an identically named competitor, please do not fret! We have now taken delivery of our brand new fleet of vans which are plain white with a subtle floral design in the company branded colours of green and purple. We think they represent a great addition and hope that you will all agree.

Click to Enlarge Here we are and it is only 11 days to Christmas!
Last week saw the Cameron Christmas party where the team enojoyed a short 'cruise' from the Embankment to Greenwich followed by all the festive fare they could manage at the 'Gipsy Moth'. Needless to say, further hostelries were visited possibly as a pre-Olympic inspection, given that the Olympic equestrian competition will be held next year on the lawns behind the Greenwich National Maritime Museum.

We are still delivering, installing and decorating our Super Grade Nordmann Christmas trees which through their excellent needle retention means less clearing up on the 12th day of Christmas. This can only be a good thing!

Though we in the south east have so far been fortunate as far as any really cold weather is concerned, it is always advisable to be prepared should Jack Frost descend on us followed by any amount of snow. Tree ferns and banana plants should be covered with horticultural fleece and desiduous trees and shrubs can be pruned. Wisteria can be pruned down to 2/3 buds. Hairy bitter cress (pictured) which oddly enough really pushes on at this time of year should be well weeded out. Those fine Italian made terracotta planters should be covered with bubble wrap which both protects the planter from cracking and gives some residual warmth to the roots. UK manufactured terracotta planters seem to be more hardy and should be able to stand much lower temperatures.

If you do find some free time amidst the Christmas shopping, parcel wrapping, turkey sourcing, seating planning and childrens' carol singing, it might be an idea to give some TLC to your garden implements. Check for sharpness on your pruners, clippers and shears. Clean off any grime and apply oil where required. Remove any flaking paint from wooden planters and list any repairs required.

Finally we would like to wish our readers and clients a very Merry Christmas and Happy 2012!

May your gardens flourish, your flowers bloom, your buxus fight blight (!) and you derive maximum pleasure from all that nature can provide, with a little help from Cameron Gardens of course!

A 4 week hard/soft landscaping project where we have planted various perennials, Betula and Bay Laurel trees. We have also installed a lighting and irrigation system.

Completed works include the rejuvenation of the walled kitchen garden, the planting of large topiary and specimen trees to the front approach, reconstructing the courtyard including fruit trees, a bespoke slate water feature and Breedon gravel. To the front of the main house we have also completed a reclaimed York stone terrace interspersed with thyme planting featuring sandstone steps.
Yet to complete are the resculpturing of the main lawn and Ha-Ha, the swimming pool area and the replanting of various other areas.
